Dr. Rosemary Leonard: Hello Emma Howard: Go to question here I don't if I say a young person or an old person but about binge eating. And they have written in to say I feel depressed all the time and I have no confidence I look in the mirror and no I need to loose weight but I just calm say in to myself in bingeing what can I do? This is all for a sort late teenage yearly 20s problem is in that? Dr. Rosemary Leonard: Yes, but actually some times it can be in someone who is done this for many, many years, and its gradually become worse and worse and worse, were start off with a half a packet of biscuits and becomes a whole packet of biscuits and more. Have to look at the whole, whole scenario, bulimia it can be and that is what this is, it can be treated quite successfully with the combination of a talking therapy usually cycle therapy some times from counseling as well, together of with medication which can help this. This is a classic whether person who is bingeing who is got very low self you stay they are looking themselves in the mirror thinking I don't look very good, and in fact one the ways one of things you have to do in order to stop the bingeing, is how to improve this self sustain issue as well. Emma Howard: Because eating makes you feel you better. So a quotient those wish -- Dr. Rosemary Leonard: He we don't, we don't Emma Howard: He or she it can affect both men and women. Dr. Rosemary Leonard: Yes it can no matter it doesn't -- men do suffer from this as well there is no mention here of vomiting or abuse of laxatives but that often goes with it as well and you can get in this awful cycle of bingeing and then making yourself cycle purging yourself, but its not a very good way of that making so sick isn't a very good work controlling your weight, but you have to trying to do. Emma Howard: Yes, aware about your organs as well, for that making yourself so you can do a lots of damage inside. Dr. Rosemary Leonard: Yes lots damage and you can even -- teeth with stomach acid. Emma Howard: And you mention it being, believe me without knowing whether its more than binge eating is it then I feel that believe me I have to be you know binge eating followed by making yourself sick. Dr. Rosemary Leonard: No not really, I mean if you are benching that's his bulimia, if you are eating is out of control that is what this is and in you need to have some form of mental health advice to get over it. so she needs to go along he or she needs to go along to their GP and get a referral either to an eating disorders unit or to community mental health team with that is help available and it can be very, very successful unlike anorexia which is quite difficult to treat this type of problem actually can unusually be treated very successfully.
