A lot of times I find that deer where you lie, these little hidey hole spots down in the woods, kind of, tucked in the cover, an hour before they ever make it to 5-6 acres field, they'd be here and then they'll make it up to the big field, where they really do their feeding after dark. I'll show you why, once we get down here.
We look around this little spot. We noticed there is dense cover all around it, that's great because deer very comfortable in entering or exiting this field at any angle. So, what I would do is on any particular day, obviously the wind direction will determine which side of the field I would place blind or stand on and don't place it necessarily right on the edge, get back in there, a layer or two because it's a small field you can observe the whole field easily, that just gives you a lot of cover. Let's go out in a field and talk about what I would do to really make this a productive area next year.
Okay, we're in spring. We're going to establish the summer food plot here pretty soon. Each time you got these little hidey-hole spots, it's going to stay in the shade a good portion of day. We are going to get about 4-6 hours direct overhead sunlight that's okay because you're going to conserve a lot of soil moisture that way. Sun's not evaporating all the soil moisture out and you can plant a wide variety of plants but one thing that we note they really likes moisture and does well, our summer clover beans like a Biological Clover Plus. It would do great in a situation like this, come August when it's really hot and dry and tough for clover to make it a living out in the middle of the wide open field, it's going to stay in tall and green down these little hidey hole spots and then come both season, you've got them right there, they use to eating in the same place everyday.
