Kenny: I am Kenny from Jackson Mississippi. Is depression a symptom of bipolar disorder? Dr. Michael H. Allen: Kenny, depression is the most common symptom of bipolar disorder. There are rare people, who only have mood elevation, but most people who have bipolar disorder have both highs and lows and the lows tend to last longer and in fact are a big source or difficulty with bipolar disorder. So if you have bipolar disorder, you should certainly expect to have periods of low mood as well.
