Bird Care Guide - How to Determine Your Bird's Sex

Hi, I am Suzanne with Featherheads. We’ve been talking about caring for your parrots. We are going to briefly cover the topic of sexing your parrot.
Not many years ago probably five to 10 years ago, not that many birds were sexed, this we said it earlier. Most parrots are very minimal if any difference visually between the sexes. So most of us out there, who had birds for a number of years, have a male named Marian or a boy named Sue.
But now days most birds are sexed, it’s easy to do with DNA. All it requires is either a few feathers or a brief—a bit of dropping of blood on a blood card. There is a lab that processes them. They compare the DNA and then we are able to tell whether you have a male or female.
