Melanie Raposo: Hi! Everybody I am Melanie Raposo and welcome to Mommy's Minute. Similar, to the pill the birth control patch uses synthetic forms of estrogen and progestin to help prevent an ache from being fertilized. The patch itself is a thin plastic square, that you either place on your butts, stomach, upper arm or upper torso. You put on a new patch every week for three consecutive weeks and then go one week with no patch. The patch is set to be just as effective just as the pill in preventing pregnancy and usually carries the same side effects such as nausea and change in weight.
