Randi: Hi! I am Randi from New York City and I heard that going on the pill is linked with depression because of hormonal changes. Is this true? Dr. Susann Clifford: Randi, that's a great question. It is true that some women do experience mood swings and depressive symptoms on the pill, but the reverse is true as well. In fact many women start the pill because of PMS and depressive symptoms and in some women the steady state of hormones from the pill, decreases those symptoms rather than increases them.
