Kathy Gambito: Alice, let me show you how to get down on to this ball, let me show you position on off force, you're going to lean forward, once again throw your weight on to the ball, arms forward perfect, keep your back straight, once again roll from side to side, back and forth.
When we can get a mom up in on a ball, we can take the pressure off her lower back, we can speed things up because we have motion, we use gravity that can also help bring the baby down, it speeds up the labor, it keeps the mom from pushing as long.
While you're in this position, your partner would be able to give you some counter pressure, on your tailbone because you may have some pressure from the baby's head coming down, squeeze your hip bones together, these two techniques can really take pressure off of your pelvis and your tailbone as the baby is trying to move down.
Babies don't come with maps, they have to go with what's called the path of least resistant, whatever is easier that's where they are going to go, this ball helps create the motion that's going to accomplish that.
Alice Benjamin: I have two other children, I did the standard laying on your back and push them, pushing them out, the only thing I could do, was turn to side to side that's why I enjoyed using this ball, this ball really helps take off the pressure off your back, which is something, I think all pregnant women will agree with this, the one of the worst things that were experienced while being pregnant.
Kathy Gambito: Next we can use this ball by leaning it, against the wall and what you'll do is, have the lower part of your back and the mid part of your back leaning against the wall, your knee spread, just like you have them and even bend a little bit, if you feel comfortable and once again you want to accomplish the rocking motion.
By being upright, then what we have is gravity bringing the baby down, your motions helps to move the pelvis so the baby can find the right way out by going through the path of least resistance. You can roll from side to side against the wall, or you can go up and down by bending your knees and coming up and down a little bit.
Every time you squat, think of, what you're doing with the pelvic, you're opening it just a little bit because you're going to baby down, there you go. So you can stand here for as long as you would like, may be every contraction, you'll stay here, may be you'll stay here for half an hour, come back movement, rocking and your comfort are key.
