You are watching the review of the Blackberry 8830 brought to you by PhoneArena.com. Blackberry 8830 is a CDMA version of the Blackberry 8800. This is a CDMA phone where a travel would be impossible without expanding the CDMA network or supporting GSM roaming. The RIM has included the 900 and 1800 MHz band on the GSM network for world roaming.
To make messaging and texting easier, the 8830 offers a full QWERTY keyboard. However, due to its small size of the keys, we had difficulties typing at times. We either hit G simultaneously or some of the keys do not provide enough feedback.
The 8830 has a large wonderful 2.6 inch screen. However, due to the size of the Blackberry, it seems much smaller. Well, we experience, no problems on using the 8830 in bright environment and thanks to the brightness. There are two settings both of which can be cycled through by pressing the power button. The first one will give you a little bit of the low light while the second one will give you a much brighter light. If you do not like going through all these steps, there is also an automatic light sensor which can be access through the options menu.
The email component was one of the most vitals on all Blackberries and here, it does not disappoint. You can scroll through all the emails with the trackball going up and down. All the emails are also categorized by their date that they were received.
When it comes to managing your emails, you can choose to delete them either or simply just on the handheld or the handheld in mailbox. The only multi delete that was found is deleting all before a prior date.
To receive messages, you can either wait for the automatic reconcile to finish or you can select reconcile now menu from the manual. There was a delay between the times that the messages were received on the mailbox on the handheld. In our test, we tested a contrast mailbox and it took up to 3 minutes for an email to be received on the handheld. Samsung 8830 offers a media player and SD card is provided. We did not like the pause assuming as well as inconvenient to open each time.
The 8830 performed very well on our reception on battery task where we are able to receive signal everywhere that we want and we did not receive one-drop call. We are able to receive five hours of talk time, which is much higher than the 3.66 hours that the 8830 is rated for.
The 8830 is a wonderful business phone. If you are looking for a phone with the solid email client, look no further. The full QWERTY keyboard gives you great abilities when texting and messaging. If you are looking for a phone, where you want to text and just capture your night out then look elsewhere. Otherwise, this is a wonderful phone for you.
