Welcome to the Phone Arena video review of the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8320. The 8320 that we are looking at today is offered by Verizon. But the phone is also available though Alltel. It’s expected to come to other city mail carriers. Design is pretty much identical to Pearl Flip found in from T-mobile, the 8320. You have a simple Flip design a typical outward display and this time is 1.6 inches. On the side, you have the 3.5 millimeter headset jack and micro USB port. And the convenient keys were you use to on BlackBerry’s. As well as the volume rocker.
Also is the 2.0 megapixel camera with the led flash. Flipping the phone open reveals a large screen it’s QVGA and quite sharp and crisp. Below we have the SureType keypad. Something any Pearl owner will be used to, as well as the trackball. Because of the Flip nature the trackball has to be flushed which means that it is deeply reassessed in here. We really don’t like the feeling of this gives. Our thumbs rest up against the side and it makes it harder to use as well.
The trackball on the 8350i next to curve is slightly reset as well. But it’s the fact that this is flush that gives it the problematic feeling. Another thing we don’t like is the design off the Flip. As you can see the front piece sits back behind the bottom housing. This means that if we are on a call, this portion runs on its face and is generally feels uncomfortable. All in all we are not really impressed by the design of this Pearl Flip. Although the Flip is reassuring, and the build quality is good. The materials that they use are not. On the front you can see that it’s very shiny and glossy and these feel like a high quality material. However the back is a dull plastic which feels very cheap.
This is the same stuff used in a keypad which also doesn’t feel the greatest. We are not such a big fan of the SureType in general. And this only further makes us dislike it. Some people prefer SureType keyboards and for those people we are sure that this one will be just fine. It does seem to be a little more cramped than the Pearl 8100 series but with an overall same width, it shouldn’t be much different. Other than that, there’s not a whole lot to say about the Pearl Flip. It’s a traditional BlackBerry menu system. This time clocking in at 4.6 and everything that you’d expect to find is here.
It does have GPS although it appears to be locked down because Google maps cannot find us. While it has a decent in hand feel, the poor materials and poor keyboard really play against the Pearl Flip. And that sure just really looking to get a Flip phone. We don’t recommend this phone too much.
