Well, if you’re in a habit of getting lost much like myself, you’ve probably come to depend on devices like the GPS, but if you don’t want to carry around a bunch of different gadgets when you’re on the go, cellphone—that’s my bike powering down there. A cellphone, a laptop, and a GPS, you might want to look at smart phones that have that capability built right into them. That would include the Blackberry Smart phones.
This is actually using a service called TeleNav and it’s pretty handy. You’ve got to keep in mind though unlike a GPS device that you just buy like a regular handheld, this is a monthly reoccurring fee, so if you want to subscribe to the service, it’s about $10.00 a month, but once you do it, it’s pretty handy. Now, you don’t have to have all these different devices lying around in your car when you’re out and about.
Basically going into the menu, I can search for all sorts of different types of addresses that I want to go to or even different categories if I want to find a Chinese food restaurant or even a gas station for example which I want to get to right now because I think the tires need a little bit of air. I can simply go in and type in what kind of thing I’m looking for Gas station. And then it’ll start giving me a list of all the ones around in the area. Keep in mind there’s another charge so there is a date of charge when you’re doing those searches. But once I’ve done that, I can simply hit on the one that I want to, the nearest one. And it’ll give me turn by turn directions. Right up on the screen, you can see kind of a 3D map and it’ll read the directions out loud as well.
One thing I would have like to see is perhaps a louder voice obviously the speaker can only be so loud in the phone itself. And the capability would have been nice if you had a bluetooth headset to hear those directions in the bluetooth headset, but from what I’ve tried, that didn’t seem to work. But again, if you want to try to keep all the devices into one unit, have a look at the Blackberry GPS devices here with the TeleNav service. And hopefully they’ll get you to go where you want to go without getting lost. See if we could get that going here and put it in my pocket so I don’t crash.
You think you need a GPS, well then you should also check out these.
