Hey everyone, it's John again. Today, I want to show you how to play the song, 'Home' by Blake Shelton. We can either do a finger picking or we can use a pick, I will show you both ways of how to do it. So, let's get started.
Firstly the chording of song goes with G, some F sharp, G, C2, D, back to G, back to D. Now, that's how it would sound with strumming but picking in progression in the song sounds like this. Now, I am going to walk you through how exactly I would play the song. I will be starting off with playing kind of G bar chord like the same here but I don't use the first two bass notes which some people call the G power chords, just like that. I just pick those two. And then I went up to Major B and I took my pinky and hammer it on to the fourth fret of my B string, like that.
I am playing my G string and my B string together when I do this and I pull off. So, what I just played was the sound like this. Now, the next part is I have made my B/F. So, F sharp is the bass, I make it around here, second fret of my E string and I go like that and I am going to play the B string with my two basses, two bass note there.
So, I got, I played the two bass notes and then I play the G and the B string together just like that and now I hammer off on my first finger which is on the second fret of the E string. I will play the E and the G string together. So, the other sounds like this. Now, I will go to the E minor, that's pretty simple. I will just play the E note and the F note. Then I play my B string and then I play the G and B strings open.
When I come back up, I am going to hit my D string again. Now, I have got. So I got, I am familiar with the other riff I play, I play my B string open and I am going to my fourth finger put it on the fourth fret of G string. I will play open G string then I come back to the fourth fret of my G string and I will play an open G string. So it sounds like.
Then I am going to hammer on A, C 2 chords or I hammer on the bass note, which is on the third fret of my E string. Then I just do a little bit of fill here picking a chord. So, we have, and I am going to go back to my B and I am going to play this, hammer on with the first finger, second fret of my G string, playing the D string and G string together, just like that. So, I am going to use some context here. That's our next move.
I am going to hammer on, pull off and take my pinky and put it on the fourth fret of my B string and I just play that. And then I will go back to the G, I am going to play just regular G chord here. And now I am going to go back here to B, I am going to go fourth finger on the fourth fret of the G string, play the G and the B together then hammer on with my pinky. Just like that. And let's look at the whole process over again. So, here's how it sounds. And we will be going with that.
So, that's the picking for the verse. In the course, there is actually another picking chord and I am going to show you that. There is a riff in the chords given as, get some context here. So the B, it's at the end of the chords coming to the verse, it rests and play this little right into verse. So, basically, I play like this, I hammer on with my pinky on the fourth fret of my G string, I will go with my B and the G strings together and pull off and then I hammer on with my first finger which is on the second fret of my G string. Hammer back on, pulled off again and then play the fourth fret of my G string and back into the G. Just like that.
I told you before this could either be done finger picking or you can use a pick. I prefer to use a pick just because it's a little louder but I will show you what each one looks like when I will play that down here. Now that's give you an idea of if I was using a pick, how it would sound; if I didn't use a pick but used my fingers, so it sounds a little bit different.
And I use these two fingers here; my middle finger and my first finger and use those for playing the B and G notes. And I play them together; I use this for you to know. So, that gives you an idea of how you can play it.
