Hey guys! David Risley here with David Risley.com and today, I'm answering another question coming in from our reader Jim Henderson. This is from JimOnLight.com.
Now, this question is a little bit long so I'm not going to read it but in short his blog is JimOnLight.com. It says, he has got a should have been growing is but around 200 a day right now which is actually very descent. And he’s looking for Cow list to grow his blog. He is also curious about how he could start in making some money with it and he actually says that he is starting to build up some notoriety in this industry. He is a professional in the idea of winding design and so he says some coffee has been e-mailing with the news information. He has been giving some interviews with CEOs and different lighting companies. It’s such your so.
So Jimmy sells to me like you’re definitely on the right track here. Your blog is starting to get attention and you are becoming an authority in your market which is lighting design.
Now, I'm not going to say I’m overage about lighting design. However, I know about blogging so I want to give you a few examples here. I actually checked out you site JimOnLight.com and the first thing I’d notice was that you have no about page.
You get that little thing over on the right side which is a very brief intuitive and what I would actually recommend is in the top menu next to contact then you actually put on about page on there and telling more through a story about who you are and maybe put your picture up there. Maybe you send information on path of work that you’ve done and things like that because that right there and only that explain an easy plying in this detail what is blog is about for people that might happen and panic who are not familiar with the idea of lighting design.
Now as far as adding some growth to the blog, you would mention that you will get right hoop broadcast and you’re going to stick in that items and that’s great. I would highly recommend that you start doing video. I know is you have video on here and you probably got some others but it looks like what you’re doing is finding other people videos and embedding them.
I would actually recommend you start trying to do your own if you can. Stand up there on your YouTube channel and when it comes actually doing videos, the thing about your market again. This is a totally from a new bee person that does not understand professional lighting but it seems to me like videos that feature really cool lighting set ups would probably get attention and is simply because of the cool factor. And you can really well people because that light you know a professional lighting just look really, really cool so you could talk about that type of thing in you videos. It maybe provides some health tips in your videos what have you and that obviously put your URL in these videos and they can drag people back at your blog.
And anything I would definitely recommend you to do and this goes into the idea of making money which is I do would like to do and that is start building up a list. I don’t know if life lighting is your company or not. If it’s a competition issue or what have you but in the web, I think the list would be really helpful in here because when you have here as a niche blog, you have a blog which in probably not going to ever build up is larger that audiences say bigger grizzly.com or PC match simply because of the market. But the thing is that the people they are looking at your blog are going to have; they’re going to have a much more intense interesting in your market so it’s a smaller crowd but probably because you are now on the forty in this market. And they’re going to pay attention actually at the same which leads me into again list building. Build up your list of prospects and then start for in the other information products.
I talked about this many, many times as the important of the way to make money as a blogger if with your own staff. And yes, you can make money with ads. They need a lot of traffic. You can probably do some direct sales that are advertising with other lighting companies now will probably work.
Now, affiliate products sales. I actually don’t know anything about your market or what are there are you know products that you can sell us in affiliate in your, in this particular market so if there’s not, that means is probably a market for information project you can write and being more of the first ones that offer anything in that particular market.
Anybody that’s looking to do lighting design whether being on a house just on a consumer level, you I know whatever you could provide inside because you are a professional lighting designer. There’s somebody is looking just to put lighting up on their house and make their kitchen on their winning room with really cool, you could provide inside on how to do it like you do it yourself self approach so I could see potential for all kinds of information products in your particular market and that is where I would recommend you go in order to start making money with JimOnLight.com.
So Jim, I think you’re on the really good you know a really good start with this blog. It’s a news blog and you know it’s again it’s not a news that I know that match it about but it. if you’re starting to build up some notoriety in this video, and you’ve got 200 readers a day, that’s some of eye balls to start in doing something left and I think the things that are said earlier probably the way you should go and we’re start monetizing it.
