Hi, and welcome to OnlineLessonVideos.com, I'm Ian Walsh. And today’s lesson is going to be on the tune called Old Joe Clark. Included in this video, you get the sheet music to the tune including a double tag I play at the end of it. You will also get two jam tracks, one is at the slower tempo and one is at a bit of a quicker tempo. And I'm going to play you sample of Old Joe Clark right now to the quicker jam track, so here it is.
[Demonstration]
Let's begin this tune on the open E string with three quick and aggressive bow strokes, so it will be—the way I play this down up down and we play just open E.
[Demonstration]
Okay. That third note is actually the down B if you're trying to stick to it on the down B, but you start off—and here some of the notes after you play three Es, I’m going to walk up to your G and you basically play this notes one after another up to the G and then down to the C sharp. Let me show you.
[Demonstration]
Okay, let's try it again.
[Demonstration]
After now, you continue again with the three Es.
[Demonstration]
You need to stop there and play along the E. So if you put those two together.
[Demonstration]
Okay. Then you repeat your first measure.
[Demonstration]
So let's play up to there, we have those kinds of three sections in this first part. One, two, three, four—then when I counted in, we’ll actually begin on the three. One, two, three.
[Demonstration]
Now, let me show you the end of that play here—we start with an A, B pick up note and we’re going to do some C, B, A, C, B, A after walk down. So it goes like this.
[Demonstration]
And then the long A.
[Demonstration]
Let me play that a little bit slower for you.
[Demonstration]
Okay, ended on the A which is the key we’re in. One last time.
[Demonstration]
Now, let's try the first part. One, two, three.
[Demonstration]
Okay. Now, we’re going to add in the double stop and we’re going to try to play with kind of just drown double stop that goes on the whole time. This is pretty easy to do in this tune. You just let that E string that you’ve been bowing individually. Now, you kind of move your bow, lift your right hand a little bit.
[Demonstration]
And you're going to get that fifth, that A and the E string together.
[Demonstration]
Now, we’re going to try to play all the notes we've just played but we’re just going to blend the A and the E string constantly throughout the whole thing. Here's what it sound like. One, two, three.
[Demonstration]
I like to end with the fourth finger sliding up, it kind of thickens your A note. It’s not that I'm playing the—choosing to play the A on with the fourth finger I'm trying to play both of them at the same time.
[Demonstration]
Okay. Let's move into the second part.
