Hi, this is Steve Gilbert for the Lick Library and here we’re looking at the C chord. This lick is going to be similar to other ones in bluegrass series but what we have here is we’re starting out of a C chord, now here we’re just lifting up our second finger on the D string and hammering on. Play the C, strum, and then play the D string and hammer and strum.
[Demonstration]
Everything else stays put in a C chord, C, hammer, strum C, strum, hammer, strum, C strum, hammer, strum, C strum, hammer, strum.
[Demonstration]
Gradually pick up the speed.
[Demonstration]
You’ll notice also that as I'm strumming on doing the strum, sometimes I'm doing a strum Da, adding another strum on the—coming back as I cross it.
[Demonstration]
Both work just fine. The key thing is getting a good strum, hammer on in the middle here and making sure your pick gets to that string to the D string so you can hear the hammer on nice and strong.
[Demonstration]
So there you go, there is a hammer on lick, bluegrass kind of style in the C chord.
