Hi, I’m Franklin Taggart. I’m a guitar player and a guitar teacher. And what I’d like to show you today is a very simple finger-picking pattern that you can use for the Blues playing on the guitar.
The main thing to remember is that your thumb [demonstration] is going to be playing the same string four times in a row for that chord that you’re playing. So, if you’re playing the A7 chord for instance, the thumb is going to be playing the fifth string, four beats in a row; one [demonstration], two [demonstration], three [demonstration], four [demonstration], one [demonstration], two [demonstration], three [demonstration], four [demonstration]. That rhythm, that's the driving force of your overall rhythm for this finger-picking pattern. So, your thumb picks on one [demonstration], two [demonstration], three [demonstration], four [demonstration]. Now, your index finger is going to pick the second string on two and in between three and four. So, it goes; one [demonstration], two [demonstration], three [demonstration] and four [demonstration], one [demonstration], two [demonstration], three [demonstration] and four [demonstration], one [demonstration], two [demonstration], three [demonstration] and four [demonstration]. See, how that works, it's very easy.
Now, we’re going to do the same pattern now for the D7 chord. For the D7 chord, your thumb picks the fourth string, your index finger picks the first string. One [demonstration], two [demonstration], three [demonstration] and four [demonstration], one [demonstration], two [demonstration] three [demonstration] and four [demonstration] just like that. For the E7 chord, your thumb picks sixth and your index finger picks the second string. So it's one [demonstration], two [demonstration], three [demonstration] and four [demonstration], one [demonstration], two [demonstration], three [demonstration] and four [demonstration], one [demonstration], two [demonstration], three [demonstration] and four [demonstration]. Very simple, that's how you’re going to play this Blues finger-picking pattern. Enjoy!
