Okay, in this lesson you are going to learn all about the blues scale. So, you’re going to here this scale everywhere and as soon as you will learn it, you are going to be recognizing it and recognizing in blues, jazz, rock and metal everywhere. So, let’s get started by learning the shape for the scale and then I will walk through it and I’m going to let you know how the scale actually made. So, let’s grab the 3rd fret on our low E string with our index finger, put that there and play that.
[Demonstration]
You’re going to reach out to the 6th fret with your pinkie on the same string and go over to the E string and play the 3rd fret in the index finger. Then play the very next fret, the 4th fret with your middle finger, grab the 5th fret with your third finger and go over to the next string with the index finger on the 3rd fret and grab the 5th fret with your third finger. Next string we’re going to grab the 3rd fret with our index and grab the 5th fret with your third finger and grab the 6th fret with your pinkie and go over to the next string, the 3rd fret with our index, 6th fret with our pinkie and finally on the high E string, 3rd fret with our index and 6th fret with our pinkie.
So, the whole thing I’m going to play it up and then I play it down so you can see what it sounds like in context.
[Demonstration]
Now, let’s learn how this is made, let’s say you have a regular G minor scale and you’re playing.
[Demonstration]
If you take your G minor scale and leave the second note out.
[Demonstration]
[Demonstration]
And continue on to the fourth scale degree.
[Demonstration]
You’re going to add after that fourth scale degree you’re going to add a flat five is what we call it and all of this is the fifth note on the scale and then you can come down one fret so you’re going to add that after that fourth scale.
[Demonstration]
Then you can add the fifth, then you are going to get and grab the seventh up here just like you do with the regular minor scale.
[Demonstration]
And you can finish it off with another G on top.
[Demonstration]
So, that’s all together again.
[Demonstration]
And you’re just going to repeat that all the way up again.
[Demonstration]
So, that’s how its made, check out to—if you like this sound. He was a guy who just been in blue scales we’re just out of this world so you’ll really enjoy learning some of his stuff and listening to him if you like the sound of this.
