[Demonstration]. All right, so what I just played is a lick that will work over a long 2, 5, 1 in the key of C-major. Now in a long 2, 5, 1, you’ve got the two-chord for full measure, you’ve got the five-chord for a full measure, and then the one chord is played for two measures. So for example if we did Dm7, G7 to CM7, we would have something like this [demonstration]. So that’s the type of progressing that we just worked over.
So what we’re doing has a lot of chromaticism, but we’re starting on this D-note and going down to C-sharp, that’s chromatic passing tone or lower neighbor tone actually. So that’s the first part, let’s practice that. So, we’re going 5-4-5-7.
All right the next part we’re going 8-7-8-5 so F-E-F-G, so practice that much [demonstration]. Then we’re going to slide into seventh position and go A to C [demonstration]. First two beats of this measure, we’ll go, and this B-flat, we’re going to use as a passing tone. So we’re going 7-10-7-8-9-7-10-8. So I’ll play the whole thing together now with the swing feel, one, two, and one, two three, four [demonstration]. So we’re ending on the major third of the C-chord which is an E [demonstration].
All right so there’s a good 2, 5, 1 jazz lick and you can transpose this to any keys where you can use it over at 2, 5, 1 and any key. Have fun with that one.
