Tutorial Part 5
Danny Grady: In this fifth segment, we will be completing the neck, using our forms of the Blues scale that cover the entire span, and so in this case we will be on the fifth string, twelfth fret, we were on that same note previously in the last form that we used. In this case we will be heading down toward the bridge.
So fifth string, twelfth fret, here is the minor pentatonic in A once again. One more time-
And then the Blues scale by adding in the flat five. One more time-
At this point, we have officially covered the whole neck, because if we go up to more frets, we will be on the seventeenth fret of the sixth string, we are able to use to same form up an octave that we had down here on the fifth fret.
And then starting on that same note and going toward the bridge, we have our original form of the Blues scale or minor pentatonic, just up an octave. So that literally covers the neck. So to illustrate and also to have a good right and left hand warm up, let's do the minor pentatonic and then the Blues scale covering the span of the neck. So starting on the lowest position, here is the A minor pentatonic.

So that gets us all the way up the neck on the minor pentatonic. So we will do the Blues scales here in just a second. The way to really apply this now is to start learning licks and just get to where you can identify your chords on each position, learn licks that sound good with the combinations of notes that you have in the particular positions and then those registers of strings, and you really be well on your way to being a great lead player able to navigate the whole neck. So here are our A Blues scales all the way up the neck.
