For playing this type of shuffle groove, my right hand is going on like this.
And see, I apply a little of beat of palm muting here so it does not ring so much. Although I could do that if I wanted to have that sound, play it further back on the things as you go. Some more sound but often, I would use my palm and put the palm a little bit on the strings in front of the ridge not too much because if that mutes too much, you cannot hear the notes but just a little bit. Switching to A string and D string, back to E not so long, so you see, up and down. I am trying to hit only the E string and A string and so on. So the notes that I am playing over the first four barres are the E chord. I am playing the low E string and then the A string on the 2nd fret which is the note B. I am playing those two together and I am going the down stroke and up stroke. And then I am switching to the note C# on the A string here 4th fret. And do a down stroke and then back to B then up stroke.
So that means like these. Down, up, down, up, down, down, up, down, up, down one more time. Down, up, down, up, down and now, the other thing I am doing is I am adding on a little hammer on. Up to the B there, so those notes are G. Do down stroke on and then I hammer on this G# note with a ring finger and then my index finger is there on the B note on the E string. And I usually use an up stroke on that note and then down. So there you have that part. Now the other thing I am doing is just to make that groove so I am just going up to the D note in the 5th fret on the A string. So the whole phrase is done like this.
And that is it. Let us do it again. One, two, three, four, switching to A, I am playing the same fingering on the A chord. I am just switching strings. Then back to E or the B and I have to move up my hand up here playing the B note here with my index finger. The ring finger goes on the D string on the 4th fret. And that is the note F#. And then I am using my pinky here to go up to the 6th fret, that is G# and play it. We are doing the same slide up idea as before but I do not have fingers to do hammer on so I am doing a slide up with my pinky like this and then back to E again. Then I will start over. There you go. The nice shuffle blues. Here is the whole thing one more time at a different angle so you can see both my right hand and my left hand. Thanks for watching.
