Body Fat Levels

Welcome to this episode of body performance, I am Steve Turano. Today let us talk about body fat measurements. Now body fat measurements are sort of like IQ. Every thinks there IQ is a lot higher than it really is and people think there body fat measurements are a l ot lower than they really are. The average man and the average woman have body fat levels respectively of 22% and 32%, those are the averages.

Now an ideal body weight for a man is 15% or less. An ideal percentage for a woman is 22% or less. If you are 15% for men and 22% for a woman you are doing really well. Now top athletes, cyclist, runners, swimmers there body fat levels can range from 5% to 12% for men and 10% to 18% for women. That is really luck. You can think about a professional athlete or a college athlete and how active they are. That is how they get body fat level so low.

So, if you want a body fat level that low you got to be active as a collegiate runner, swimmer, wrestler and biker so try to keep things in perspective. If something measures your body fat level and it says 12% and you got this little garner. You probably not at that measurement but the important thing I remember with body fat levels is not to obsessive about the numbers. If you can get a measurement just use as a baseline and then go from there so let wing your self and scale that is not real accurate but if you use the same scale all the time you got a good indication whether you are going up or down.
