Hey guys. Thanks for checking out watchmojo.com. This is Perna and I am going to be talking to you a little bit about Bollywood.
Now, for those of you who don’t know, Bollywood is basically India’s equivalent to the North American Hollywood. The only difference is that they’re a lot bigger. In Bollywood, they create over 300 films a year which is I believe three more times more than how many movies Hollywood makes every year. Now, it’s also often referred to as Hindi Cinema simply because Hindi is the most basic and common language used throughout the films.
A lot of people make a mistake that Hindi movies are musicals. They’re not. Bollywood basically have their own genre of film which is musical based types of films. Now, in every movie or almost every any movie that you see out there, there will be musical based scenes where there’s dancing, singing and it’s not uncommon to see at least three or four of those scenes happen throughout the film. Another thing is that when you’re watching different movies, you will notice that most of the actors are lip syncing and that’s simply because all the voices sound the same when they’re lip syncing but there are musicians and artists who are hired and their songs go on to a range of movies.
Most Hindi films are based on the idea of romantic relationships and they’re all surrounding the idea that whether or not they’re going to work out. So if you get frustrated while watching a movie or if you’ve watched several Indian films and you’re getting frustrated, don’t worry it’s very common for this to happen.
Some actors are so popular that they aren’t even affected by the success or failures of the films. Meaning if the films don’t do well in the box office, it doesn’t matter, they’re still going to be very, very famous because of the success that it had on the past. On the other hand, there are actress who are not Indian who are popular in Bollywood but usually it’s really hard for actors who are not Indian to make their mark in the scene.
Now, some of the most popular Indian movies that have been released over the past five or ten years include Khabi Khushi Kabhie Gham as well as Monsoon Wedding. Bollywood has also been known to rebuff some ideas from Hollywood or whether they’re independent movies screenings around the world. However, there’s a movie called Bride and Prejudice which is released in the past two or three years and it basically combined the worlds of both Bollywood and Hollywood, so we had famous actors from both realms worked together, different styles and music combined together and it really worked out.
