Sarah Martin: With my second son George, I did try to breastfeed, for about first five days, but it was really no success at all. He was in special care for the first couple of days and he was fed through tube, but then I got him back, I just couldn't really never really got out together, did we?
Male Speaker: Is there anything wrong about bottle feeding a child?
Dr. Su Laurent: It's nothing wrong with it, and those babies will probably be grow up to be just as strong and just as healthy as all the other babies, and I think there can be a guilt complex in some moms who have really wanted to breastfeed and for whatever reason it has to worked out and it's very important to not make that, moms the victims and not make them feel guilty because whatever in the ultimate it will always right for the mom, it's right for the baby too. So whilst, I am great advocate of breastfeeding, sometimes it just isn't right for that particular mom and the baby and those babies could be very healthy as well.
Sarah Martin: George wouldn't latch on at all and despite somebody must help, intensive help from the midwives in the hospital for those couple of days. He was just, he wasn't getting any milk at all, he just wouldn't stay on at all and so they would recommend that he needed a bottle, although attempt the breastfeeding.
So it's almost, I got the impression of a vicious circle he was getting a taste of the bottle which also is so much easier to get milk in that way, so he would, you know he go harder and harder and more bottle feed he had, the harder it was to breastfeed.
Dr. Su Laurent: I say if you want to breastfeed always give it at least two weeks before giving up on breastfeeding because the first two weeks are hard and seek help. There are people there, your Midwife will help you in the hospital, your Midwife at home will help you, there are breastfeeding counselors who'll help you and also other moms, who breastfeed can be very supportive. Keep going, keep the baby latched on in a good position and make yourself comfortable when you start breastfeeding because give it two weeks and for be play and sailing, if you give up before two weeks, it will done yourself on the baby at the service.
Male Speaker: Any regrets over that?
Sarah Martin: Well, yes it has been resentful. I should probably have taken advice and I know you can get advice beforehand. There are breastfeeding workshops etcetera. So I should have may be lived into and would again something I was doing a bit more.
