Bring Me The Horizon Discuss Metalcore
Rebecca Brayton: You either love him or hate him. Hi I’m Rebecca Brayton and
welcome to WatchMojo.com. Today, we’re speaking with Bring
My The Horizon about how they standout from the rest of the
bands in their genre.
Tell me a bit more about the area that you grow up and the kind of
the scene that was going in there and do you fit it into that scene or
kind of standout?
Oliver Sykes: We didn’t fit in whatsoever. We went to this show and we’re
probably the youngest kids there. They're all kind of like straight
edged and hardcore dudes you know.
Lee Maila: They’re like seeing kiddo and we call it -- we didn’t catch on in
anyone’s until like a few years after America like the whole -- and
so we weren't really any other kids.
Oliver Sykes: We looked like that. We've always look like this. We kind of stood
out a bit.
Because we only go to these shows and we've only been starting a
band. We get a break like one of the guys were like, ‘Yeah you can
play the show’ and we’re playing with all these hardcore bands and
then like we kind of got a bit respect from that because we really
like 16, 17 and 18 and we were like, ‘Yeah, these guys can play
their instruments.’
Rebecca Brayton: You guys know what the big differences between European and
North American audiences?
Oliver Sykes: American always got what we did more than in England that I
guess that’s why because we are inspired by little American
accents and stuff like that. When we came out to America first
time, kids are going crazy for us and like we’ve never been that,
really even been noticed. That was cool.
Rebecca Brayton: Tell me more about the visual elements of the band.
Oliver Sykes: I’ve always been into like artwork that looks like very opposite to
the kind of music we all like. If you look at our album covers, it
didn’t really look like typically -- cover like I mean our first album
had spirals on the front.
The same with the lyrics I mean I’m screaming like really low and
really brutal and stuff. If you read the lyrics, it would look like
talking about killing people and stuff. I mean it's talking real stuff.
Our first, when I was starting writing lyrics it was all just like kind
of random and I look back and I don’t know what it all about.
Sometimes I guess just the language, Ryan and stuff but then as the
day has progressed, I put myself into more situations and
comfortable stuff. It's all past now. The other thing is about
personal experiences and stuff and the like. The latest albums has
just completely personal, it's all about. I guess like Skid Row
revises and just kind of like good and evil and stuff like that.
Rebecca Brayton: Well thanks very much guys.
Oliver Sykes: Cheers.
