In Aikido we (20 years training and teaching) do not use the word Chi/Qi which is Chinese, we use the Japanese word Ki as Aikido is Japanese in origin. The word Ki which although shares the same kanji as the Chinese pictograph Chi/Qi means something a little different then Chi/Qi as Ki encompasses all types of Chi/Qi more like what the Daoist Chinese call the Wu. Also the use of Atemi or Kyusho (pressure points) is not generally in the practice of Aikido and should be avoided in the explanation of the practice of Aikido as many instructors do not practice or have never been taught the theory and use of these points and as practitioner of Japanese and Traditional Chinese Medicine (acupuncture) that hitting or striking these points without proper training and supervision can leave someone severely injured or dead.
