This is for the person who wants to install Cairo Dock. They have a new version of Cairo Dock 2. So if you install it you have to go to add the repositories here, so copy that first line here this is to add the key and basically you open your terminal and control shift V or middle click to paste it, all right. Enter and it will tell you to type your password or whatever and this is it, right.
And the next one is it depends on what you have. So we have Jaunty, so we copy this one and open your software sources and in here you go to third party, right and add or paste in the line that you use copy, add source and that’s pretty much it, hit close, it should update, right. And after you update it you go to your synaptic here and search for Cairo Dock, right. The Cairo Dock here and it just install that one and that’s pretty much it, you have it installed.
Now to open it, you go to the menus top here. It should be your system tools and you have two options the no OpenGL and this is for older cards, this is with the OpenGL this is the newer card, right. If you have the old graphic card you use that, newer graphic card use this, okay, it depends on you. Now, you need the composition manager or Compiz, okay. So if you don’t know how to get those two, watch my other videos on that you need that to use Cairo Dock.
So this is how a Cairo Dock will look like. They have the official iZoom by default like most Docks. So they have some options here let me see, we talked about—if you right click on this you have the manage themes so you have themes there. The themes are pretty easy to get up and running. All you got to is—the one that says net next to it that means it not installed yet so you have to download it. Well, basically all you got to do is select the one you want like let’s say this one.
And that show you a preview of how it looks like, right. And if you want to install it, hit apply, it should download it and you get up and run it. The one that says user is, it’s already installed. Most people get this Dock because they want to immolate the Mac themes so they have a Mac there if you want.
So that is pretty much for the theme use. Now, to add and remove stuff like the custom icons, all you have to do is head to your application on top here and track whatever you want, like let’s say calculators or something, drag it up, drop in here, there you go you have your calculator there. Now if you don’t like it no more just take it out drop it and it’s gone, you see. So that’s what you can do to add and remove stuff.
Now, if you want the Dock to always be on when you log in. You can do that here, go to Cairo Dock and go to launch Cairo Dock on start up. Now, if you do that It'll start up every time you log in and this would be you're default Dock, but if you want to remove it just go to start up applications and if you don’t like it no more just look for GXL Dock or whatever the Dock that you open with in the OpenGL, whatever. So just look for Cairo Dock and remove it if you don’t like it no more. So that’s pretty much it.
They have some other stuff in here that I want to talk about is some annoyance that I have. So go to Cairo Dock and go to configure. And go to the behavior here, and positions, you can select what position you want, top, left, right, you know, whatever. Another one is in the accessibilities you probably want this one keep Dock below other windows. This is the checked mark, that’s what you got to do and basically that’s what it was going to do is, let say you have this window, you see how you maximize it and this Dock is still visible. If you check on that one this will be invisible and the only you have over here it will show it again. So get it out of your way you know, they don’t have the other options like the AWN so that’s pretty much what you probably want to do, so it’s up to you.
And let’s 1see what else is there that I need. Oh yeah, this is a pretty cool feature this doesn’t have any other Dock that I've use so far but let’s say this is the program that you're using. Now to close this you normally have to use the X point here whatever, right, but this one you can still highlight the icon down here and middle click on it and that whole program is gone you see, I like that feature. I wish the other Docks adopt that one. So as far as that, this is the Cairo Dock 2, they have some other options in here, let me see, that you might want to try.
Now, you show all—it looks more organized like kind of like the Compiz manager kind of thing but there still a lot and this is too much to talk about but I'll go with that when I have time but they do have some integration with Compiz. You see they have the show miles option and all that. So there's something that you can try out, okay but that is it for Cairo Dock 2 and you know how to do the theme and all that now. So that’s it.
