Male 1: A child that is one year old. There is certain thing we look for. Up to now the kid is smiling and they can feel silence but a year—some other things have come. What would make you have concern that a kid is one year old and there might be something wrong, we have this term all over the place Autism? What would you look at the kid and say maybe there is a little concern, what would you be looking for? And you go and ask some questions, kids one year old and you think, “I got a problem here, maybe the kid has this thing we heard all over the news autism. It may not be but what would be asking?
Male 2: The only reason to be concerned about Autism at that age is because of the publicity. I mean it is almost impossible to make the diagnosis at this age. But there are maybe certain clues that developmentally there maybe issues with this baby that may require a in-depth observation or evaluation by an early intervention program where the baby needs special services or some infant esteem, maybe the baby is in the process of being in danger of facing what we call pervasive developmental disorder. Again, this is if baby does not attain the typical milestone for a baby of this age for instance—
Male 1: What are the key? What are you looking for?
Male 2: For instance, if the baby is not developing socially the way the baby is expected to as far as being able to focus on the people that he recognizes. He fails to develop his vocabulary. The baby of one year should be able to understand every key elements such as commands and they respond to commands. They have a vocabulary of about half a dozen to a dozen words. He should be able to understand the meaning of no. He should be able to probably recognize parents and get excited when he sees them and probably will be able to say “Mama” or “Dada” at this point and know actually that they are “Mama” and “Dada”.
So, if a baby fails to reach this milestones and he fails to make proper eye contact and they interact, that maybe a room for concern where the baby may need to be monitored and be evaluated by in-depth—Special Developmental Team.
Male 1: And unfortunately we give a vaccine at that time Measles, vacirella and nothing to do with any concern that we believe in, but we start noticing things later and just the timing of the vaccine is a little of all that concern. So that could be just bad timing of the vaccine that is all.
Male 2: Well the fact is that 90% of the vaccines of childhood are being given within the first three years of life and the first three years of life is the timing also in which we have start to notice the emergence of these conditions that everybody is so terrified about—autism. And it is a terrible condition for a child to be affected with and it is horrible things for our family to go through. But because of the overlap of those two periods, there is this chatter about the linkage or attempt to link autism to the vaccines that these children get whether it is the MMR, whether it is the preservatives that were presumed to be inside pediatric vaccines, which have not been in pediatric vaccine for about seven years now. But because of this overlap there is this attempt to link this horrible condition with vaccinations and it is creating a lot of stress and a lot of tension and a lot of anxiety in a lot of parents.
Male 1: You are have seen Measles there is an outbreak of 11 plus the cases in San Diego. I think two this last weekend in Brooklyn. What is wrong? If you get a thousand case with Measles one of them this going to be neurologically impaired, be hospitalized or institutionalized and if you had Measles around with other vaccine, the estimation for many cases is 4000 new severely retarded children.
Male 2: People have gotten complaisant with the fact that we have not seen a lot of this horrible childhood diseases that had been practically eradicated. And the reason is because these vaccination programs do work and because of the complaisance, there is a lot of people who refrain from vaccinating their kids and it has created a layer of un-immunized popu
