Glenda: Hi! My name is Glenda and I am from Haledon New, Jersey. And I wanted to know does stress stop you for menstruating and if so, what problems does it cause if you miss more than one? Charles Raison: Glenda yes it's a good question. There is evidence in fact that stress; especially extreme stress can interfere with the menstrual cycle. Typically, what happens is it gets delayed. Missing a few menstrual cycles is not a big medical problem. You are not going to have long term health consequences from that. If one were to miss more than a couple of menstrual cycles, you definitely would want to go to a doctor, A, if you are sexually active, obviously to make sure you are not pregnant, but also it just to make sure that there is not some other cause, some sort of clearly identifiable hormonal cause that could be medically treated for why one would be skipping period.
