July 15th 2:30 in the afternoon. I am now reporting in from Uxbridge, Ontario which is another cute little country town, and I just wanted to give you a bit of a view of this town here. It's also one of the towns; it's very, very close to Toronto. As a result, it's actually a popular daytime getaway. There is lots of golfing in the area, bed-and-breakfasts. It's a beautiful area for a short distance getaway. I actually show you where we're going now. This is sort of part of the Main Street here. I am just catching the Western part of the Main Street in Uxbridge here.
What I am going to try to do is, I am going to try to turn around actually. Let me see if I can swing through here, we get a little old timer vehicle going on here. I wanted to show you the Main Street. Going around here, let's see, nothing coming on this side. Let me give you a view through the window here. Anything coming? Oh yeah. Okay, nothing on that side. So let me give you a little view of Uxbridge here.
This is the Main Street right here. What is it actually called? Brock Street I believe. Many of these towns are very, very popular with motorcycle riders. Sometimes, you can see there is an old historic Victorian home here to this town, and this is also Main Street. So what I am going to do actually is, I am going to go here and show you the area going so from in.
A lot of motorcycle riders come through here for weekend getaways. There is actually a town in Southwestern Ontario, I think it's called Port Dover, where a whole bunch of motorcycle riders, I think there must be hundreds and thousands of them that every year, there is a particular weekend where they go to Port Dover and the whole town is just teaming with motorcycle riders, particularly Harley riders.
So you can see I mean a lot of these country towns have retained a lot of original charm. Many of them were founded, some of them as early as the late 1700s, but those are sort of few and far between, most of them are the early settlers came into this area in the 1800s, and activity really started going. See this is Memorial Park, this is a Waterfront Park with a lovely little pond here. I just wanted to make a stop here.
Let me show you this. All that type of stuff started happening from the 1850s onwards, and that's when the town started to get populated and then in the 1860s-1870s, the railroads actually started to come-in here, and that's when light and industrial activity and manufacturing started happening. So this is as new as Memorial Pond in Uxbridge.
