In this video, I am going to do an unboxing of a lens. It’s a brand new lens, not out on the market but it’s fairly new; some MC2. It’s the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8. So it goes to stop 1.8 at aperture. So really wide and it is it’s tiny. It’s really tiny.
I am not going to show you because we’re going to watch the video for that but a real—at the end put in some pictures about of once I’ve taken with it and just a really quick explanation at the reason I wanted this lens was to do in fact called bokeh. I think that’s how it’s pronounced which is a Japanese for blurry basically and it means that you really do got a sense of the lens without something—having such a wide aperture of 1.8.
You get an incredible sense of that being a foreground and a background. Now the background being—the background being blurry normally, well which is the traditional bokeh effect. But it’s simply quiet special, yeah and oh yeah and it was an 80 quad lens which I’m just astounded by. So, enjoy the video.
Well I came home from school today and on my doorstep thankfully was a new lens from Amazon.com. Okay, so we’re going to do an unboxing and maybe a little review. Let’s just start ripping the box to pieces. There we go. It’s just the Amazon box.—So the Canon was not big and now it’s a lot—it’s quite tiny in fact.
There is the box where the Canon—oh look at that in a minute.—oh and my box just landed on my cat but she seems to quite enjoy it, so I overslept and here I have the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 MC2. Let’s have a look at the box, we’ve got, so in all different languages. There is the bottom of the box and then some kind of bar codes, optional accessories so you can have the zip tight bag, the EF 62 which is the cover and any 52mm filter.
So let’s open up the box and here if we just look inside there, we’ve got—get that bubble wrap to make sure that it really doesn’t and hasn’t in front it looks very—And then itself is very small that I will save for a minute and we got some fold up instruction manuals on how to put it on. Well let’s put a lens on and oh, there's a little vent in here and it’s a warranty card. There we go. So let’s fold those back up, pop that up over there. This is—here we go, absolutely tiny lens which makes it quite good actually quite a few reasons.
If I just bring over this—300mm lens, completely zoomed out and here is the 50mm. This is a comparison. Now it’s really quite small. Now I’m—I got the wrong end. There we go. That was that end so let’s bring over my SLR body over here. You see it’s a—you see that? It’s a Canon D30. There we go now. This is actually plastic which I can understand because there’s no way now you got the weight of that, in fact it’s incredibly light. It’s kind of—nice and clean.
And we’ll take that off, it’s only 52mm as well. And there is not actual zoom. It’s—this is the focus. It’s—well it’s on all set focus, we just click that out. There we go. So I am making that winding that noise. And it’s got menu focal range of.5m which is 45cm which is exactly what we’re after. Let’s line up the red dock. And there it is; it’s on. It looks a bit stupid, doesn’t it?
Well, let’s see what it takes like. Seems to have accepted it, okay. Oh that’s brilliant, okay. I am already taking in fact on the perfect distance away and if I just take picture, the flash is on, take about, if I just go it down a bit. Here we go. And it’s taken. Picture; here we go. Can I have I look at it? There we go.
And you can see that’s quiet a clear picture which I’m quite pleased with. The lens itself that we just snap it off to have a quick look, it is really light; incredibly light. You can see right through it. As I said, we’ve got the focus and the manual focus I was on auto focus then.
We look at the numbers on it, it’s kind of lens EF and it does the fitting 50mm. so it’s recently wide; 70 wider than this chucky little thing. It’s 118 f-stop. So that’s—it’s really wide lens. It’s pretty quick and it’s the MC2 that made some slight improvements to it.
I think the shell itself is actually plastic which is I don’t really have any problems whether it was very cheap lens to buy and it—from the first I have taken it I’m very excited about it and it’s nothing big because it’s such a tiny lens. I mean it just keeps the weight down completely.
So that’s my little review and also of thoughts on the Canon EF 59mm 1.8 MC2.
