Mirror lock-up is used to prevent the camera from shaking when a picture is taken. This can be very helpful anytime you use a long shutter speed and any shake in the camera will be seen as a blurred image.
So, in order to set this function, press the Menu button, move over to the Third Setup tab and choose custom functions. Press Set, move to custom function #9, at the bottom you will see the little yellow dash. And you can also see the custom function listed here. Nine is the mirror lock-up. And if I press Set, I can go down, choose Enable, press Set and then I can just escape the menu.
Now, every time I take a picture, the first time I press the shutter button, the mirror will lock up. You can see in the view finder now I can’t see anything because the mirror is in the way. The aperture and shutter has already been selected. It’s ready to take a picture. I just press the Shutter button a second time and the picture is captured.
If you change your mode dial to one of the automated modes right here, you won’t be able to lock up the mirror. You can only use the mirror lock-up function in the Creative Modes right here. So, if I turn the mode dial to Automatic, now I can take a picture just as I would any other picture using automatic. But if I keep the mode dial in any of the Creative Modes, I need to go back into my menu. So, that’s the custom functions and disable the mirror lock-up so that the camera will be able to take pictures like normal again. Press menu to escape and you are ready to take another picture.
