Welcome to Common Man Cocktails, I’m your host Derrick Schommer and today we’re going to do the “Caribbean Millionaire”. This is a cool sounding drink. I can only imagine sitting on a cruise and place in the Caribbean as a millionaire of course. And this would be the drink I’d order or just at home, really I guess just at home.
The cool thing has creme de banana, it’s just not used enough. You know what I said that about the Sloe gin and I get all kinds of recipes about the Sloe gin. So I don’t think there are any good recipes that have creme de the banana. Speaking of which we got more slow gin just a dash this time, we’re going to use a Gold Appleton Jamaican Rum because Jamaica, Caribbean it all sounds like places I’d rather be than in New England in the cold weather.
And Apricot Brandy you don’t find the good use to this too much either, it’s one of those that you just keep around because you’ll never know when you’re going to need Apricot Brandy. What else we need I think just that we’re going to use a piece of lemon here a half lemon and we’re going to garnish it with piece of banana is that pretty cool. And see if I remember to put it on.
All right lets gets started, let’s go with the rum. This is awesome, if you don’t like rum walk away you don’t want to try this but if you’re keeping your mind open or you could tolerate some rum this is really smooth. I like a rum in coke, Captain Morgan. It is very pronounced and you will notice it through out the life of this drink from the start to finish you're going to state the rum just a bit.
It’s making noises and it’s bothering me. We do the slow gin last because it’s going to have a dash. We’re going to do one ounce of the crème de banana so you’ve got one on one banana and rum that’s always cool. Of course if you don’t like banana, I don’t know, everybody likes banana’s it’s because we’ve evolved from monkeys and it only makes sense we like bananas unless you don’t believe in evolution. We’re going to do an half an ounce of the Apricot Brandy just gives it the apricoty taste. Smooths out a little bit and a little dash—I don’t know really, that was little more than dash but I like it anyway. It kind of turns it to a brownish red color. We’ll do the explosive lemon, here we go, give it a little sour taste.
I stand up, of course this is a high ball glass I’m going to pretend it’s a Collin’s glass because again they haven’t not come in yet. So I would probably like this on a Collin’s glass better because to me a Collin’s glass is just ritzy and you’re supposed to be a millionaire. Pour that in there, but you're not a millionaire without. Awesome. Check it out. Really I guess if we had the bananas bigger that would be nice. If it was more instance but it’s banana, everybody likes bananas. There you go that’s a Caribbean Millionaire.
Let’s give this a smell apricots and rum totally just a cool working between apricot and rum. So if you could have apricot rum you’d be right here this is what it smells like. It’s got the smoothness of the rum. It’s not as much banana as you think you’d get. Let me try that again, it’s like a berry banana from the Sloe gin and the banana is working together and definitely you’re going to get a little apricot. But I think the apricot comes out best when you just smell it and of course as you look into your face you're always going to smell it.
It’s a little more potent I think the rum because it comes right in and just smash right in the face. It’s right there, it’s got the gin, it’s looks like a Sloe gin feast not as red but good balanced of sours, good sweets is just that the alcohol drives right through. It’s not enough to turn you off if you’re not into a heavy alcohol. We have some people in the house that are into really heavy alcohol tasting drinks. And I know she liked it so if she likes it you’re going to like it.
