Seth: Hi! My name is Seth and I live in Dayton, Ohio. I just recently had new carpet put in and I notice when I wake up in the morning, my throat hurts and my nose is all stuffed up and I was just curious, what causes that and what should I do. David Bronson: Seth, what you described is not an uncommon circumstance and it's most likely a chemical sensitivity to some of the materials used in the installation of the carpet, either the carpet itself or some adhesives that are used in the process. First thing you should do is air out your house. Try to clear all the air as quickly as possible, often within a week or two that symptom will disappear. If it persists, seeing an allergist can be helpful.
