Catching and Releasing Tarpon
Dan Hernandez: Just run them down a little bit and then the battle will be on. I'm not going to come up really fast. It’s so sunny. It’s so beautiful here, a beautiful day of fishing. Try it, we’ve never been down Central America and I’ve been down here many, many times and I’ve fish all these different countries down here. I’ve been to El Salvador. I’ve been to Guatemala a few times. I’ve been tiny times in Nicaragua. I really love fishing there. Great! This is the first time I’ve been on the Caribbean side at the Costa Rica and I fish Costa Rica probably about six times in the past over the years and it’s just a phenomenal fishing here.
Not only can you get monster tarpon like this but off shore everything else is here. They got the Dorado. They got the billed fish. They’ve got and cooked the marlins and they have the fish bill or the sail fish, the tunas, Amberjacks, all kinds of jacks and stuff but what’s neat about this is you can fish right off the beach, go for the big tarpon and if you get tired of catching tarpon or you just want some variety, you can go off shore and fish those other species and if you want to try something totally different that you’ve never done before you can go in the jungle, fish the lagoon. They got the spotted bass, rainbow bass and a variety of other small fish like that and it’s just really fun to catch.
So, if you’ve never ever thought about it, I really suggest you try booking a trip, joining us down here or go to website and you can go visit our website. You can also visit the website,—oh man Silver King Lodge and we have a link to it on our website and you can get all the details about coming down here, very easy trip to make. You can catch fish like this. A lot of people are fishing lifetime but there’s no reason you can’t come down here every year and do this. This is awesome fish.
I was to carry.
Cliff: You drive kind of bit, just take your time.
Dan Hernandez: Yeah. I was to carry, just wrap around it and stay there for a second so we get less time. Cliff has been telling me the whole trip whenever the fish goes one way, you pull the other so he’s going to left right now, I'm going to pull to right and shift the rod. Shift away from the motor. Here it comes. It’s coming up. It’s going to jump again right here. It’s going to jump. He just wants to watch me suffer. There we got him hooked.
Cliff: Yeah, keep it in.
Dan Hernandez: And he’s right here. He’s barely, barely hooked. So I don’t know the boat. Hey, this beautiful sunset in Costa Rica. Look out. Here is a rod and reel that we used. This is a beautiful tarpon we just caught. It’s a big fish. Rod and reel torque 200, 30 pounds fish case in rod, Dan Hernandez Rod. We’re here at the Silver King Lodge, beautiful, beautiful trip and again thank you Cliff. We’re going to go ahead and release this guy a little bit. So did you scale him?
It’s just beautiful, beautiful trip fishing down here. Silver King Lodge, Cliff is our guide. You can find them on their website. Cliff is his full name but here is the common clip and there’s a scale on that.
Well, we will take a little break right now but when we return we’ll be doing this week’s tip of the week and Cliff is going to show us how to tie one of the famous knots he is known for. So we’ll right back.
