Ceiling Fans- Save on Winter Heating Bills
By HomeAdditionPlus.com
Normally ceiling fans in the summertime rotate in the counterclockwise direction such that warm air is pulled up from the base of the room into the ceiling here, thus making more comfortable in living space of the room. However, there are switches on the most of the current day ceiling fans that can rotate the blade in the opposite direction or in the clockwise direction. Doing so will cause the heat that rises on the winter months to the ceiling to be pushed back down into the living space, thus making the room feel warmer than if you do not have a ceiling fan on at all or kept it going in the same direction that you normally keep it going in the wintertime.
If I hold a piece of tissue paper up to the ceiling fan when it is rotating at counterclockwise direction, you will see that the ceiling fan has a tendency to lift the warm air up from the room here into the ceiling, higher ceiling.
So what we do here is we just have to turn this switch on the ceiling fan and we turn on the fan. We will see that it is now rotating in a clockwise direction. Now what this is going to do is push the air above the ceiling fan down. And you will see by again holding this tissue paper that the tissue paper is now being pushed downwards. This will push the warm air that has risen in the room down to the normal levels of the room such that you feel warmer during the winter months.
So that is it, nice, simple, easy way to save a little bit on your heating this winter.
