Many people have got ceramic tile floors and they are good to an extent. There can be problems with them. One of the biggest problems are when tiles crack or they get chipped and what are your options to repair that? You have got two options basically.
The first option if you are lucky enough to have some scrap tile, if your installer left some behind you can actually take a tile out and replace it. A lot of hard work to do it though and one of the first things you have to remember is when you replace a tile and you go to re-grout around the edges you have got to make sure the grout is going to match. How do you do that?
The first thing to do is to always clean the grout with oxygen bleach. Simply take some of the powder mix with water pour it on the grout, make sure it had a nice solution. It sits there for 10 to 15 minutes. It will start to bubble and fizz and do the work and you just lightly scrub it and you are done.
That is a lot of work. Why not do it another way? Take the cracked area, fill it with clear epoxy. It is a two part paste that you make up. Use a toothpick to gently install it into the crack so that the epoxy as right at the level of the tile. Once that dries, I will use paint and a fine artist brush to actually paint over the epoxy. The paint will match perfectly color wise so that you will not even see the crack.
To make sure that the paint does not get dirty, after it dries, I will then coat it with one or two coats of clear urethane and the job will be complete. That is all I need to do to fix cracked ceramic tile. I am Tim Carter, Ask The Builder.
