Notice that each frequency is very different from the others. So what you're doing when you move the mic around is essentially selecting difference frequencies to add or remove from the original (in addition to what gets added or removed by the speaker itself). In others, you've a poor man's ad hoc graphic equalizer. Still cool but not really magic.
