Arthur St. Antoine: Part pony car, part transformer, this is the all new Chevrolet Camaro SS. Under the hood is a mega 6.2L V-8 making 426 horse power and driving the rear wheels to a 6 speed manual transmission. This one is going to be quick for sure. Let's watch the Camaro around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Randy drove the Shelby GT-500 which you like the lot. Now you just gotten out of its mortal enemy, that's Chevrolet Camaro. This is the all new one, the SS, what do you think about it.
Randy Pobst: Not nearly as much power as the Mustang, but a good running engine, great sounds coming from the engine. It's a beautiful car to look at but to drive it, understeer, frustrating, understeer.
When I got down at my hot laps, I didn't want to drive it any more, because I knew every time I go into a corner, the fronts are going to stop working and it will just, just start howling and it will want to push. It is not well balanced the way the Mustang is.
The Mustang I wanted to keep going, just keep clicking off the laps because it was such an enjoyable and rewarding car to drive, a driver's car. The Camaro isn't yet, but I think it could be with some, probably some easy tuning, but I think the rear suspension which is independent versus the Mustang's live axle, that's very obvious. You can tell that Camaro feels more refined, the rear suspension has a lot of grip.
I think it's capable of being a better balanced car and still being very safe and easy to drive. Potential is what I see here and I just think that they have been too conservative in Chevrolet with the handling setup.
