Chicken Shawarma Recipe
Hello everyone, today we’re making one of the best sandwiches you can get anywhere, Chicken Shawarma. Yes, I’m going to teach you how to make a Chicken Shawarma sandwich just like the kind that you get at the restaurants. It's easy and you’re going to be able to make it at home and you are going to love it. Let’s go and the ingredients.
Now, remember you can get all of these recipes on the website at DedeMed.com. We’re going to start off with some slice chicken. They’re sliced into thin strips. I used chicken breast, some people like to use chicken thigh. I like to sit with the chicken breast because it’s easier to cook and does it take as long to cook. And if you cook it the right the way, it should not be dry.
Here are the spices. I have a four teaspoon of ground cardamom. I have an eighth teaspoon of cayenne pepper, eighth teaspoon cinnamon, fourth teaspoon seven spices, fourth teaspoon paprika, fourth teaspoon dried parsley, one teaspoon salt, one tablespoon minced garlic, a fourth cup of Greek yogurt, a fourth cup of lemon juice and let’s get in this.
Put our chickens in a big bowl. Now, I know your thinking Chicken Shawarma, you get it and cut off over rotisserie and we’re not all have rotisseries at home and that’s why I’m teaching you how to make it. You have a thinly slice of chicken, that way it looks like it’s cut off rotisserie. It tastes the same. Let’s put our spices in here, our garlic, our yogurt and our lemon juice.
Now, we’re going to marinate this for at least two hours so that all of the flavors are nicely developed. You want all this seasoning to get so tough and that is absorbed by the chicken. Also the lemon juice and the yogurt help because they’re acidic. They help break down the chicken. They make it very tender. So your chicken is going to be moist and it’s going to be tender, and it’s going to be flavorful. So see just like that. Everything is nicely mixed stop, cover it with wrap, and refrigerate it for two hours and then we’ll cook it up and naturally you have to make a sandwich.
So I have a nice deep pan and I have it on medium high heat. I’m going to add about three tablespoons of olive oil, just like that. And then I’m going to add my chicken. I let it marinade for two hour. I’m going to add it to the old pan and then I’m going to let it cook for about 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, you’re going to start to see it browning. You want to take close attention and let it go for another two minutes and then you take it of the heat.
As its cooking, all the smells come out. Oh my God, it smells so good. I can wait until the chicken is already cooked.
Okay, wait for 20 minutes. Okay, our chicken has a nice brown color and you can definitely smell all of the seasoning that we put in here. And when you take up the heat we’re going to put a sandwich together.
So we’re going to put the sandwich together, but if you’re trying to go low carb, you can just serve the Chicken Shawarma over a nice salad maybe I put two salad or tabouli. It would taste great but tabouli and some garlic sauce on the side.
Anyway, let’s put our sandwich together. I have some Pita bread and I have some garlic sauce. I put the garlic sauce on my Pita bread. I also have a George Foreman Grill that I’m preheating because I like to press my sandwich after I roll it up. So I put my garlic. I’m going to add some chicken. This chick probably makes you about four sandwiches and it all depends on how much you fill your sandwich too. I like to make nice filled sandwiches.
Now, also remember each restaurant makes their sandwich and differently. Some people put lettuce in it, and some people put tomatoes and some people put onions. I’m putting onions and I’m putting some Kabees. These are the pickled turnips. You can find them with a lot of the Mediterranean, in the Middle Eastern grocery stores. I’m putting some green pickles like that. I want to role it up, really tight and then I’m going to put it on my door to form and grill. And I’m going to grill it for about three minutes and just like that and you place it in here and let it grow for three minutes just like a Panini. It just makes bread a little bit crispier. It tastes great. Now, be careful we have the aluminum, so it maybe hot. You can see that sandwich is nice and crispy. Oh my goodness.
Let’s put on here like that and look at that. I want to show you this. Do you see that? Oh, it’s nice and crispy. You can see the pickles, the kabees, the chicken. Oh my gosh, I’m going to let this cool and then I’m going to eat it. I love Chicken Shawarma. This is going to help you make it at home. I can’t even wait. Oh, it’s so good.
Anyway I’m going to get to giving you my Chicken Shawarma sandwich. I want you to definitely try this at home because I know you’re going to love it. It’s so easy. It saves you a lot of money. You don’t have to go pay $10.00 at any store to get it and you can just make it at home.
