Children’s On-line Hebrew School
Shalom!
This video is going to explain our innovative and unique on-line Hebrew school education program. Why are we doing this? Well first of all, there are Jews that we keep learning in remote areas around the world who do not have access to Jewish teachers and education, and want to give their children a Jewish education.
We now through Esynagogue have the opportunity to teach adults basic Judaism and more advanced Judaism through our Para-Rabbinic Program. But really, there are very little resources available to offer a comprehensive graded curriculum for children to provide Jewish education as they should have.
If you live in the metropolitan area, there are many parents who are frustrated by the many demands of their children and their personal schedule. A lot of their children do not like Hebrew school, complained about going and the parents have trouble getting them there. It takes a lot of time to slip, it is often at rush hour, or the weekends when the family would rather do family activities, and you can not schedule at your own convenience.
Well, for those who are frustrated by all that, we have an alternative. In addition to that, we have learned that Hebrew schools are not very successful in general inculcating Jewish commitment in teaching Judaism. Loads and loads of studies have shown that, despite our best effort by good educators to improve them. And so, we are wondering if an on-line school can meet a lot of those needs. We believe it can. We are going to take advantage of some of the great resources on the internet already. We are going to use some of the terrific curriculum books that we will send you and basically, you use the computer and your child’s reading ability to give them self home-school Jewish education.
If you live in the Chicago Metro area where our program is based, you can attend our synagogue for monthly field trips and have interaction that way. We highly recommend if you are in the Jewish community that your children anticipate new activities and Jewish summer camp, so they can have the group experience.
But we believe that they will get a lot of learning done. We have seen over the years that when a child has an individual tutor for bar mitzvah training, their Jewish learning grows exponentially. So we are betting that if a parent is investing on a child’s Jewish education, even if it is less time per week that they now are involved in classrooms where a lot of time is wasted. They spend a lot of time in the couch sleeping. In this way, you sit down with your child, you monitor them at the computer and reading to look out some of the subjects.
We also think that we will have the added benefit of bringing families together around Jewish education. There are interactive activities from this. We start at third grade, but you can start at any grade, third, fourth, fifth. There is a combined sixth and seventh grade program which is basically a modified version of our introduction of Judaism for adults which has a bat mitzvah training component, too.
If you are not affiliated with any synagogue, you can of course come to our synagogue and have a destination bar mitzvah. Our synagogue has agreed to that in Skokie, Illinois but this on-line product program product of Esynagogue, we believe will address many needs.
So please inquire to us at rabbi@esynagogue.org about this on-line Hebrew school innovation, and we believe it will be of great benefit to many people now, both Jewish and those who are thinking about being Jewish. Why not give your children a Jewish education. It will be largely based on reading and on computers as I said, but there will be teenage tutors that will be kind, who are very knowledgeable who will be contacting your child regularly an hour a week as needed, to monitor their progress, answer their questions and help them a lot.
You can always of course have contact with me via phone or e-mail, and just again inquire about this terrific program.
