In the last lesson I demonstrated for you how to carve the 3-cornered chip into a positive 3-coner border. Positive border means that we leave this square section of our wood in the border section on carved fernals(ph). We are carving out the background and leaving this section prod. So, this is what a 3-corner positive border starts to look like. I want to show you how to transform that into a flower like shape using the flip-flop motion. With the first position in our knife, we are going to put and point the knife into a previously carved chip and were going to make a small little cut from there to the center. And flip it over to your second position of your knife and take out a little chip right there. We will do that around the outside of four sections of this chip. So, just flipping our knife from one position to the next and one more, the flip flop motion then transforms this chip and gives it a nice delicate look. Let me demonstrate that in a few more of these chips. I will do more than one at the time.
And then flip it in the second position and take out those little chips. These are small chips, so you do not need to go very deep. And of course, if you got 20, 30 or 40 of this in a row you just work all the way down your entire row on one size. You do not have to keep turning your board, continually back and forth. And that is the flip flop motion to transform a positive border, three quarter chips border into a floral border, nothing to it.
