Now we go to our lessons, we look at the positive three-cornered chip border with the flip-top motion to make it a floral pattern. We look at the negative three-cornered border with a tiny three-cornered chips on the edges. There are lots of variations to use the three-cornered chip in different border styles and in this lesson I want to show you how to make a border that has a sort of a Southwestern U.S. feel to it, sort of pearly land and it is called the zigzag border.
Alright, again we are going to make three cornered chips. I am going to start with my knife on the center row, center line. First position, corner to corner, skipping lines in between, okay, rotate your board like we have done before. Go back to your second position with your knife, start point of the knife on that center line. Rotate the knife; roll it on your fingertips back into the first position and make the slicing cut along the baseline. With practice, this will start coming out cleanly with nothing left on the bottom of the chip around the edges. So there is our first set.
Now to make the zigzag border, instead of starting the point of your knife directly across from your previous chip, slip over to the middle and then go right in between the chips we made previously. Now take your board and finish it up with your first position cuts. And that is the zigzag border. You see what I mean; it sort of has a little southwestern feel to it.
