This episode is brought to you by awesomedrinks.com where the best drinks begin and G Vine, the first ever gin made from grape spirit.
Welcome to the Sunday night shooter edition of Common Man Cocktails. I’m your host Derrick Schommer and today we’re going to do a quick little shooter. This is cool it’s another café style layered drink. It’s got two alcohols and one super sweetener.
So, at the bottom we’re going to have grenadine and then we’re going to put in a little Kahlua. It’s like a coffee liqueur and then Bailey’s which again fits well in cocktails. I use it as a substitute for cream when you just had a rough day or your drinking coffee at night. Don’t really use it in the morning because that would be just insane. I think this might work well is with a coffee. Put a coffee, have this shot, it’s cool.
Now, here’s the super trick. It’s got a cherry. That’s what makes it Chocolate Covered Cherry. You drop the cherry in number one. There you go. That’s really the first layer so it’s four layers then we’re going to do a half ounce of the grenadine and this is another one of those drinks where when you are ready to drink it, you got to want it to put it right down because nobody just wants to drink pure grenadine. That’s gross. It’s just really not that good.
And then what we’ll do is pour the Kahlua in a layer on top because that’s just how chemistry works in this little experiment we got going on here. So the way I do it is, and most people do it is you put a spoon backwards, pour it across the spoon. That way, it keeps you a steady hand and keeps the drink form just mixing. There we go.
Then, because we just float that on top so you get your second layer. It already looks kind of cool. It’s got a darkened tinge to the top of it. Really, this drink does not only taste kind of neat and it’s a little different. It looks cool. Although, I haven’t found a pousse café that doesn’t look cool. There, beautiful. Check it out.
What you’re really seeing if you can see it is right about here, it gets really dark and then you’ve got the nice ring at the top. Are you going to zoom in? Is that what you are doing? Check it out we’ve got the technology.
So, the other cool thing here is that the cherry flows between. It floats above into the Kahlua but not completely. It doesn’t touch the Bailey’s. It’s literally suspended in mid air but everything layers perfectly. There you go. That’s your Chocolate Covered Cherry.
Now, I also suggest and I didn’t learn this from experience. I just used common sense here; take the stem off. First off, you don’t want a stem hanging out of your drink. That would just be silly. Secondly, this gives you the bottom’s up, drink it, chew the cherry and you’re good to go. If you’ll leave the stem on there, it gets all kind of complicated. So let’s not do that. I’m going to see if I’m not going to get my shirt dirty here. Almost, almost could do it. If I had a cheering section, I think I could finish the whole thing without the breath.
So, I think why they name it that. It tastes like a chocolate covered cherry but not just regular chocolate, not milk chocolate but I would say a dark Swiss chocolate with a little kind of almost a caramel and coffee coating on top of it. Maybe like a cracked coffee coating or something just pop it in your mouth. This is like candy which is why I think I would go well side by side with coffee. Take a sip of coffee, take this, and chase it with some coffee. You’ll have yourself a very good time.
Also check out our sponsor G Vine gin, great gin, very floral in awesomedrinks.com. I like to drink in glasses so much. I am so impressed with the Tiki God Head and there are always so many drinks. So I’m going to buy two for you. Go to everydaydrinkers.tv, register, log in, and leave a comment on. I don’t care. This one, the last episode, the one before that, one of the last three episodes and you’re entered to win these cool things. It’s only going to be available in Canada and US only. I’m sorry about that but shipping is a pain. They’re kind of heavy too. So, check that out. I’m your host Derrick Schommer and we’re teaching you how to drink.
