Welcome to Common Man Cocktails, I’m your host Derrick Schommer. This week we’re going to do the chocolate margarita. I like margaritas, I love margarita let’s take that back a little, I love margaritas but I’ve never really explored something outside of the realm of standard margaritas because I feel that they hate the margarita but I'm changing my tune a bit. I’m going to roll back and just think about this and give it a try. It’s chocolate margarita. I like chocolate, I like margarita, and it must be a good pairing right, whatever.
So, we’re going to use, is we’re going to try some more Cavalino Reposado Tequila, 100% I got them, the big tequila fan. This is one of my favorite that’s why I got a second bottle in case this small amount doesn’t cover me, think it’ll be okay. We’re going to use little orange juice, not all of that just a little bit. We’re going to use our chocolate, its going to be a Godiva. Original chocolate, they have milk chocolate. These guys, you get out of control with the flavors of chocolate, this is just the regular shot. It’s going to be dark, it’s going to rich, and it’s going to be what we want.
We’re going to this sweet and sour. You get margarita at the restaurant typically there is some form of sweet sour mix or it could be made in house, might not be—you could use alcohols, this case were—and we just be so intense so we’re going to use some standard sweet sour to make it margarita tasting. Cointreau a little orange peel effect, got our shaker and then this is going to be a cocktail drink. We’re going to dress it this whip. We get chocolate leaves, this is from DressTheDrink.com. They sell different assortments of things to make your drinks prettier and they were like “Hey, you know you got a lot of drinks” but they’re kind of make it. So, we’re going to dress the up a little bit. What goes better in our chocolate margarita than chocolate? It smells really good so, I’m going to try and hold back from eating it. They have different assortment flavors too. You can—this is more of a milk chocolate, dark, I don’t know. Then we get some strawberries and some vanilla like flavors delicious leaves. I think we’re just go the dark chocolate and I did finally get my cool little measuring glasses. They’re not really just for alcohol but they got the measurements on the top so you can pour straight down and see you’re doing. So you can use it for baking, you can use them for mixing cocktails, you know we’re going to do it from here. So let’s get started.
We’re going to pour one and a half ounces of our Reposado Tequila, you can use a gold if you want. I would suggest highly against something that’s not a 100% Agave as its going to sour the drink because its basically gray alcohol and disgusting but I’m a tequila snob so, just whatever that part. Through the juice, we’re just going to do one quarter just a little flavor, tiny, tiny amount plus if you’re pirate keeps scurvy you away. Cointreau, half an ounce I guess it keeps scurvy away even if you’re not a pirate. I don’t know any pirates. If you’re a pirate send me an email, dschommer@everydaydrinkers.com. We’re going to do a three-quarters of an ounce of this crazy chocolate just enough its intense, you don’t want to over power the drink. Otherwise, it’s not going to be a chocolate margarita, it’s just going to be chocolate. If you want chocolate just to eat these things. What are we missing, just the sweet sour, one ounce sweet and sour. I can’t say it’s the most delightful looking drink foresee. Get some ice. Now, we’re going to simply shake. You have chilled one this guys, get a chilled one. It will be so much better.
I should do kind of get a little hiss going on. Pour that in, kind of looks like chocolate, maybe more like a milk chocolate look to it. Pinch of green. Now, I guess you could garnish it that way but let’s just dive it right in. There you go, look at that, pretty. Just give it a try. Now, it smells like a margarita, that is the key. If it doesn’t smell like the margarita then you’re not going to be convince, that’s so weird. From everything that you’re going to taste is got a little of the bitter bite from a margarita. Typically, you’re going to get a little lemon lime bite to it. It smells like the margarita. It has the tequila flow, flows right if you have good tequila just going to flow very gently across your palette but it ends with that, just a settled chocolate.
So, what you’re going to get is really a margarita that has a chocolate after case. I think that’s really what you want when you were going margarita because you’re going to get something sour but not overly sour because its just a little sweet sour mix and there is sweeter as chocolate is a very good marriage at least this recipe, there’s probably a thousands of different chocolate margaritas. This is very good, its very classy kind of a dirty look to it but what are you going to do its chocolate unless its white chocolate is going to look a little dark, definitely tasty. If you’re a margarita drinker, you want to try this. Trust me, don’t be like me. I just think “Oh; its margarita” I only go straight margarita. Just give it a try if you’ll like, you make it again. Let’s see what I want to check out. Oh yeah, we went to the Boston wine expert this weekend, that was awesome. If you have never been, you should definitely check it out.
