Hi, this is Kristen from I do wedding essentials and right now were learning how to create a candy buffet. The first thing were going to talk about is the type of containers and packaging that you can use. Generally, the types of containers you want to use are all going to be glass or crystals. I’ve got a few examples here of different ones. It’s good to get a wide variety of heights and shapes. It’s good to get a lot of pedestals and makes it more interesting.
As for the number, generally you want to do approximately a quarter pound per person. You really want to think about how long you want to have the buffet out. if you’re just going to have a table as people are leaving the reception or if you want it to serve more as a candy station or people can kind of snack throughout the night. But as a general rule, regardless about a quarter pound per person is good. So for five containers depending on the size of the candy, you’re looking at a wedding at probably around a 100 people for five containers, so if you have a 150 you might want to up it to seven or nine. Usually odd numbers are good, kind of always decorating on odd numbers and they look nicer, so usually I always go you know five, seven, nine, eleven if you need to go that high.
And then as for packaging, you can do any type of little take out box, the paper ones or the little plastic ones you can get clear. Some of them are frosted but the little plastic ones cost a little bit more, you could probably find this for around anywhere between like $16.80 a piece and the paper ones probably somewhere between 40 and 60 a piece. Generally, I recommend this size because this could hold about a quarter pound of candy but if you are doing it to kind of make an impact and have a candy station and even if you have a hundred guests you want to do nine different candies. Then you could go up a size and do a pint worth of candy. This is a half of pint container and people could really go home with a lot.
Another cheaper option for packaging that we almost always do with our candy buffets is the silhouette bags and this also come in different sizes. They run very inexpensive anywhere from ten a piece to a quarter a piece, so you can get the larger size, there’s a smaller size and we’ll talk about doing wroth candy later and this are nice because the wroth candy fits in both of this sizes really well. And its also kind of good to augment, save if you have a 150 guest. If you do maybe a 125 of this because you’re not, so sure everyone will take one and then kind of leave 25 of this out. its nice just in case so you have some extra and like this one we have a little monogram sticker on it so you can dress this up and you can also put the stickers on the boxes, so you have lots of different options.
So we’ve just talked about what types of containers we want to do and the type of packaging and next were going to talk about choosing your candy.
