Darren Barr: Hello! Welcome to a stellar episode of Making it with Darren. I’m your Host, Darren Barr and you know, it’s the holiday season. I’m in spirit. I’m thirsty and I want to get thrashed so here’s how I do it, okay?
One of my favorite drinks ever is good Irish whiskey or Canadian whisky on the rocks with splash apple juice. We’re going to turn this into a seasonal favorite. So we’re actually doing spiced apple cider, Jameson whisky and it’s called My Hard Caramel Apple.
Let’s talk about this spiced apple cider really quick. This is Trader Joe’s brand spiced apple cider. It’s really spicy, lot of flavor, lot of clove, some nutmeg all spice cinnamon. You can taste all these flavors in there and that’s what really makes this drink. If you do not want to go to Trader Joe’s and you’ve been making your own, great. Use it. Just make sure it’s chilled first. You can make your own apple cider by doing just regular unfiltered apple juice and cloves, some nutmeg, cinnamon sticks, all spice and you could probably float in orange in there for good measure as well and let that cook for all day in a slow cooker or just like 20 minutes on a stove.
But regardless, we’ve got it here so let’s start making our drink. We’ve got our martini shaker here; we’re going to fill this up with some ice. I use a Jameson whisky. It’s really smooth, really nice, really complements the spicy cider. We’re going to do two shots of Jameson whisky. And then we’re going to top this off with our apple cider. So it’s about 50-50 blend in this. What we’ve got here are some caramel toffee candies. You can use Werthers Original or any caramel toffee candy and we’re just going to drop one of this in here to kind of give a little taste.
Alright, we’ll shake this up a little bit. Alright, so that’s good shaking. Now here’s the cool part. We’ve got just a regular martini glass. This is Hershey’s caramel sundae topping any like squeezable caramel will do well. We’re just going to pop the top on here and just kind of drizzle this into our glass like that.
Male: Is that for me?
Darren Barr: Yeah, Maybe.
Male: It is the holidays.
Darren Barr: Alright well I’m in the mood for giving so pour that up to the top and I think we can float one more candy on the top here.
Male: Give it a floater, Darren.
Darren Barr: Yeah, hey. We’ll give it a floater. Does it float? I think it disappeared but that’s my Hard Caramel Apple, guys.
Male: Cheers.
Male: Cheers.
Darren Barr: Cheers.
Male: Wow.
Darren Barr: Good?
Male: You don’t even taste the whisky.
Darren Barr: Oh we might have to fix that.
Male: I do a little bit actually.
Darren Barr: Alright guys; happy holidays.
