Hi, Frugal Tech here. I wanted to record a brief video, it’s my review of the Chrome for OS ten beta from Google and I got it. I'm really impressed with this beta. Now listen, I love all things Google. I use Google Voice, I use Google Apps, Google Docs, Google Sites, Google Wave. Just to name of the product that I used in Google. But I haven’t use Chrome much, at least on Windows, because it seems to crash on me all the time. It just never seems very stable. I got to tell you I'm really impress with Chrome for OS ten, the beta anyway.
I got some pros to this thing and some cons. And the first pro is its really fast. I compared this with FireFox running on my Mac and you know what it renders so much quicker than FireFox. Now I also compared it to Safari, now that was a much closer contest. But I still give the edge to Google Chrome.
Now I am running on iMac, it’s an older iMac, 24 inch model with the Intel Core 2 Duo processor. 2.16 gigahertz. 3 gigs of DDR 2 RAM. Running Snow Leopard 10.6.2. So that gives you an idea of the platform that I'm using.
Now, both browsers, Safari and Chrome, are both base on web kit. So you need to know that right off the bat. The beta seems very, very solid and it’s a very Mac like application. I was very pleasantly surprise, it doesn’t seem like it’s a fast and dirty for the Windows version to the Mac. And it launches very, very quickly.
Now there are some cons with this beta. Compared to its Windows brother, this beta lacks the browser extensions. It doesn’t come with those. It’s also lacking the bookmark sync feature as well as mutlitouch support. 64 bit support is not compatibility isn’t included and neither is Google Gears. But Google is, I think, basically planning on placing Gears with Html Five anyway.
So in my final opinion on this, my impression really is Google Chrome OS, so far has been a genuine pleasure to use on my Mac. It still not going to replace FireFox as my primary browser. But I think it’s going to make a great secondary browser. And there are say it may even surpassed Safari on a lot of different machines out there. They also, Google by the way also released it for Linux as well.
Make sure to go out and grab yourself a copy of the Google Chrome beta for Mac OS 10 today. I think you're going to really like working with this browser. I find it to be an absolute joy even in this beta stage. It does seem fairly polished and stable.
