Edward: I'm Edward, I'm 25 and I'm from Houston. My question is what dietary habits can I cultivate as a young adult in my mid 20s to try to prevent chronic heart burn if it's something that my parents face as well as my extended family. Dr. Lawrence Cheskin: Well Edward, heart burn is not something that strongly runs in families, its more the habits that families get in to in the way they eat and the kinds of foods they eat, that are problems also being over weight doesn't increased, risk of heart burn, so what can you do, don't eat too much, don't eat lots of spicey or acidic foods, or even things like chocolate and peppermint and liquors cause problem in some people and also try not to eat shortly before you are going to bed, because the stomach acid will come up in to your stomach more readily.
