Travis Stork: To shave the bones of your feet, Melissa did just that in the name of fashion. And we scrubbed in for her surgery. I want you all to be warned, it is pretty graphic.
Speaker 1: Welcome Melissa. It's actually a very typical problem where you have a bunion and you have a tailor's bunion; the bone in this side. What we're going to do for you today is narrow the front of the bone, bring this side and the bunion side by narrowing this medial side. When you shift this bone over and I'm going to shift this bone over in essence creating a narrower foot. The clinical primary, we have to dissect around this capsule nice and clean, before we can expose that one, and look how sharp that is that causes a lot of discomfort. We're going to take bump out. This is not smoke, it's boned ash. She loves this thing. I'm just making sure that cut goes all the way through the bone; now we're going to shift this piece over that way reducing the angle like we showed on the X-ray.
Do you see that's transferred? It's actually shifted over this is a very sophisticated fixation system because what this allows the patient to get is this procedure without having to worry about screw the case. There known had complete flat, so this patient wanted that feel the screw, so I'm going to fit the gaps up together, then I grab my needle from here. So, now look I took the cap seal through the bone, right now, I'm going to take that same needle and I'm going to go back through the cap seal and tacking this down to the bone. We're doing to the tailor's bunion, which is the same thing, but much smaller on the outside of the foot. She lost a good one centimeter of width on this side and another half a centimeter on this side, and then a shoe then makes the big difference.
The procedure has been excellent, the bone is nice and strong, the screw went in perfectly and she is going to be great. She is going walk fast.
Travis Stork: Melissa is here just two weeks after a surgery along with her surgeon Doctor. Welcome both of you. How you are feeling, first of all?
Melissa: I'm totally fine. I feel good, it's not hurting at all; not even two weeks, its 13 days and it's going to be two weeks tomorrow.
Doctor: How do you feel right after the surgery, little sore?
Melissa: Little sore, but I was totally fine. I was able to walk out of the office right away; I didn't even need to have to use crutches. I was totally fine. I didn't have to use the pain killers that you do think so.
