Circuit Strike One iPhone App Review

Circuit Strike One is an arcade game available for both the iPhone and iPod Touch. The game feels like just like asteroids except if you through of few hallucinogens and stuck in a hacker world full of crazy female robot voices in order to top sound effects. There’s really no obvious premise to this game other than the fact the player must destroy the data core in the center of the map to move on to the next level.

In order to do this, the shield generator must first be destroyed and then the player only has seconds before the core itself destructs and the game is over. While you’re trying to this, you’ll be constantly pummeled by fire from fire AI units and Turrets. This is where your controls get important. Shaking the device will activate a bullet time mode that will render your ship invulnerable for a few moments and allow you to accomplish your goals in slow motion. This bar can be refilled by killing enemy units and collecting their ghosts. The thruster is also important located on the left side of the screen holding down or move you forward and sliding down will activate an airbrake or backward thrusts.

This game confused me at first and it is really important to read the directions before jumping in. The graphic and sound effects make it seem extremely complex and sometimes get overwhelming in a good way. The experience gets more and more chaotic depending on what you happened to be doing at the time. Overall, CS One is a great example of how a classical arcade model can be taken and remade for a modern device. It has a wonderful game play and it’s ultimately a still for the price it was offered at the time of this review. Check it out.
