Hi, this is a quick video from blogtactics.com. You will find it on blogtactics.com on the videos page along with the blogging videos we have done. Now, this particular video is about SQL database overheads and SQL database table crashes. Why am I doing such video? Early today, my blog went down. Apparently, my host was undergoing in a tech and while I was fixing it, one of my database tables that actually holds the data forward press crashed and was having a problem. So, when I went to my blog earlier, instead of looking like this, which is what it normally looks like, it looked like this, which is the WordPress install page. That I was having coming up with this page because wp options table where all the options for your WordPress blog are stored, had become interrupted basically. So even if I try to use this install, it would come up with the error saying WordPress database error table. wp options is crashed and should be repaired. And if you have this happen, it may not be that you get this page because you may have a different database table that has crashed because there are a few database tables you use by WordPress.
The important there is, it is says marked as crashed and should repaired, then I am going to show what you need to do. I need to log on to your C panel, to your hosting, this I cannot actually has to do this with C panel if you use a different host, you have to ask them how to do it but you log on to C panel for your host and you go to my SQL databases. It may look different depending on which you see me use but just use my SQL databases, it will be one of the options available and then you scroll down to the bottom which says phpmyadmin. Click on that and it left to open new screen, which will just take a moment to open up. Once phpmyadmin comes up, this is the screen that you will see. What you need to do is click on the database name it self. So, click on this and it will bring up a new page. Basically what the stars is bring a list of the tables in the database, the one I was having a problem with today was the wp options and this line here appeared green and just said in used so there was a problem with it.
What we needed to do is simply click on this box here ad scroll down to the bottom and there is an option. So we could find the option there. It is under this drop down menu here and you need to choose repair table, now there was a point about how much you are going to do this, I do not need to repair the wp options table in this case, scroll back up, it is working correctly, however please scroll across, you will see that there is an extra column at the end here. It says overhead, that overhead is basically where a table starting to become a bit messed up or defragmented and you need to repair it anyway. So, we will actually click this table here and scroll back across, just wp options and there was another one there that also had an overhead which is this one so scroll back cross on post media. I will take both of those and I will run the repair option on them. Now that overhead basically means tables are starting to get low with mess up and it is worth once in a few weeks or once in three months or so checking to see if you need to run that option run the repair, just take a few moments to do so come back once it is finished.
Okay, so this is the screen that you will see once it is finish and it takes 10 to 15 seconds though it depends on the size of the table that was working with but at least 10 to 15 seconds. What we are looking for is repairs latest okay, so when it is done, I am so happy again. You should not need to do that very often but it is worth checking on regular basis every couple of weeks or every month something like that although it depends partly on how much traffic you are getting because a lot of traffic to your blog is more likely to happen more often. So close down phpmyadmin, this video will be on blogtactics.com on the videos page. I will set post link to a post where it explains more of it, my SQL table overheads, I will also post link to the wp back up plug in to make sure that you are backing up on a regular basis as well.
Hope you found this useful. Thank you very much.
